Year 6 Induction

Welcome Day – This is our Year 6 student induction event held in school on Tuesday 2nd July 2024.  Year 6 students are asked to wear their usual school uniform, bring a packed lunch, a drink (no glass bottles please) and something to write with.  Please arrive between 8.45am and 9am.  The day ends at 2.50pm.

Parents/Carers Welcome Evening. This event is for parents and carers only and not students. It will be held on the evening of Tuesday 2nd July 2024.  Doors open at 5.15pm for a PROMPT start at 5.30pm.  Come and find out more, meet the staff and look at uniform and taste the food from our Canteen.

Summer School. This is a 3-day event from Wednesday 24th July to Friday 26th July 2024. Please register your interest using this MS Form. We are aware that some primary schools are still open on Wednesday 24th – please do not worry and allow your daughter to enjoy her final celebrations and then join us on the Thursday and Friday. Students to arrive from 9:15am for a 9:30am start and will finish by 2:35pm. Students need to wear appropriate clothing, and please provide a packed lunch. Induction event 2: This event is for parents and carers only in September (Date TBC).  Please arrive for a PROMPT 5.30 start.  The evening ends at 7pm.  Come along and find out about Growth Mindset: how to get the mindset right to get more progress, more success and more fulfilment.  The evening will be delivered by Robin Launder, an expert in the subject. Robin has presented at schools, colleges and universities across the UK and abroad. His talk has been described as “an inspiration”, “uplifting”, “a lightbulb moment”. It’s fast-paced, entertaining and full of strategies to help you help your child get the most out of education.

Year 7 ‘Settling in’  - meeting with tutors.  Come and meet your child’s Form Tutor and share how your child is settling in here at Blackfen.  (Date TBC)

Year 7 Parents’ Evening  - to meet subject staff.  Come and meet your child’s subject teachers to discuss how well they are doing and what their next steps can be to meet and/or exceed their targets.  (Date TBC)

Autumn, Spring and Summer Progress Updates are issued termly.  These will show your child’s quality of academic progress, attendance, achievement, behaviour points and the quality of their growth mindset.

Meetings with staff are by appointment only – you must give 24 hours’ notice.
