Why study this subject:
If you are interested in a career in Fashion Design, Promotion, Textiles, Costume, Interior Design, Visual Merchandising or Styling this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed for further study at University, College or Apprenticeships. Studying a BTEC allows you to develop a very varied and comprehensive personal portfolio. The course is very practical and hands on, and requires you to be creative and imaginative. Some sewing skills will be required but there is more emphasis on the development of innovative, cutting edge ideas.
UNIT 1 – Visual Recording and Communication (120 guided learning hours)
Externally assessed task set and marked by exam board
UNIT 2 - Critical and Contextual Studies (90 guided learning hours)
Externally assessed creative written task set and marked by exam board
UNIT 3 – The Creative Process (90 guided learning hours)
Fashion and Textiles project based on a theme
UNIT 4 – Fashion Materials, Techniques and Processes (60 guided learning hours)
Fashion design, make and promotion project based on a theme
How will I be assessed:
Units 1 and 2 are externally assessed in supervised assessment periods during May/June.
Units 3 and 4 are internally assessed by your teachers.
